Mini Cruise to Parga, Sivota and Blue Lagoon

This wonderful day cruise will allow you to admire the beauty of the Greek mainland coastal scenery.

After leaving Corfu harbor, the boat passes the old town with the two Venetian fortresses, rounding the Kanoni peninsula and the Mon Repos Palace and then heading south parallel with the mainland.  Sailing past the port of Igoumenitsa, which is the capital city of the Thesprotia region, and the small vishing village of Plataria you will see the tiny islands of Sivota just before the boat enters the breathtaking cave of Sivota.  It was here that during the Second World War the Greek submarine was hidden.

From here the boat proceeds to Parga which is a picturesque village and seaside resort which, although located on the mainland has the characteristics and feel of an island resort.  The two and three storey houses form an amphitheatre beneath the imposing remains of the Venetian castle which was built in the 11th century by the residents of Parga to enable them to defend themselves from invasion by pirates and Turks.  At the entrance of the harbor and facing the castle is a small island with a church in honour of the Virgin Mary.  Every year on 15 August there is a splendid celebration around the port ‘Varkarola’ with boats decorated and lit up, a dedication to the Pargians who returned to their home town of Parga from Corfu.  You will have ample time to explore the narrow streets and discover the numerous interesting little shops or perhaps have lunch at one of the wonderful seafront restaurants.  You could even hop on the little tourist train which will take you from the coast to the forest stopping at the traditional watermill and the folklore museum, take a walk around the castle or simply take a dip in the refreshing sea.

Upon leaving Parga, the boat will sail around the islands of Sivota where to this day, sunken vessels lie at the bottom of the sea following the great naval battle between the Corinthian Fleet and the Corcyrian Fleet in the summer of 432 B.C. before arriving at the beautiful bay of Blue Lagoon where historians claim that in the Middle Ages Arabian pirate ships would moor close by.  The boat will anchor as close to the beach as possible and there will be an opportunity for swimming in the crystal water of the Lagoon.

Throughout the day refreshments can be purchased at the bar on board.

Suggested items to bring – swimsuit, towel, sunglasses, sun protection lotion, comfortable shoes for exploring Parga and of course a camera!
